James Howat was my great-grandfather. He farmed near Galston in Ayrshire, Scotland but later moved to South Wales. He had 14 children, of whom 5 emigrated to the USA. One, Andrew Howat, became a Judge in Salt Lake City. He died in 1929. I am descended from the youngest of James's children, Thomas Howat. I am interested in contacting other Howats, particularly in the USA, and particularly if they no longer have the name Howat. It seems that most of the descendants of the Howats who went to the USA were women and when they were married they lost the Howat name. Desendants' names that I know of include Demler, Schoppe, Odell, Hampton, Rutherford, Gilmour, Rendall, Reynolds, and many more.
