I really don't know, all the OPR records we have seen call them Cowan and Janet herself used Cowan. We were always told that they were actually Colquhoun's. One family member's notes mention connections to Ogilvie and Hamilton but doesn't actually name names so we haven't been able to trace them back any further than Janet Cowan and James Howatt. Judy
