Janet Howat married George Burdon at Westport on 6th December 1890. They lived at Denniston where George was a coal miner, and raised eleven children there. George had a mining accident on 1st November 1915 and died eleven days later of his injuries. Janet and the family later moved to Nelson where she had the Cafe de Paris in Bridge Street. She made a second marriage to Frederick Hare ("The Duke". We are currently researching the family history and would love to hear from anyone who knew of the family and their life at Denniston, or Janet's early years after she shifted to Nelson.
