Got your message and tried replying to you from two different accounts but only got non-deliverable error messages. Maybe you will browse through here and see this:
The Howat family I am researching lived in Oxford Co. in 1861 and Perth Co. in subsequent census. John Howat (var. Howitt) married Isabella Lochhead in Scotland probably in 1843. They both came from Ayrshire and likely emigrated in 1849. Children were Janet, Robert, Annabella, John and Margaret Jane.
Your Edward Howatt and his siblings do not sound familiar to me. Around what time were they born?
(There is a Robert Howat listed in Hamilton Cemetery, Wentworth Co. in whom I am interested since I don't know the ultimate whereabouts of John and Isabella's son of the same name. Haven't tracked down the inscription just yet).
I will let you know if I ever find a connection to your family. There don't seem to be a lot of Howats in Ontario -there might have only ever been a couple of emigrant families of this name.
