Searching for info about James Howat b. abt. 1819 in Eng., d. 1862-1873, m. 1842 in Dumfries, Dumfrieshire to Margaret Kennedy Ross b. abt. 1819 in Dumfries. Children were: Andrew b. abt. 1843 in Dumfries; Elisabeth b. abt. 1845 in Troqueer, Kirkcudbright; Homer b. abt. 1847 Troqueer; Mary b. abt. 1849 Troqueer; Frances Brook b. abt. 1852; Mary Cowan b. Jul, 1854 Maxwelltown, Galowayshire; Samuel b. abt. 1860 Maxwelltown; William b. abt. 1862 Maxwelltown.
I just found more info from the FamilySearch site for children of James Howat and Margaret Kennedy Ross. I found a John Howat Christened 24 Oct., 1858 in Dumfries, Dum., child of James Howat and Margaret Kennedy Ross. Also, Andrew Howat b. 27 Feb., 1842, Christened 25 March, 1842 in Dumfries, Dum, son of James Howat and Margaret Kennedy Ross. And, William John Howat b. 24 Oct., 1858 in Troqueer, Kirkcudbright, son of James Howat and Margaret Kennedy Ross. And, Mary Cowan Howat Christened 16 July, 1849 in Dumfries, Dum., child of James Howat and Margaret Kennedy Ross. And, Frances Brook Howat Christened 18 March, 1852 in Dumfries, Dum., child of James Howat and Margaret Ross.
So, according to this, they were in Dumfries from 1842 through 1858, and in 1858, also in Troqueer (wherever that is). I couldn't tell which church the Christenings took place at, and am wondering how anyone else can tell.
Can anyone tell what needs to be done next? Could the family have lived in Troqueer and had children Christened in Dumfries?

Thanks,
Marc Archer in Flint, MI
