Hi Kurt,
I recently saw your post on the Howe message board regarding the ancestry of Harlow Howe and Cornelia Hasket. I believe that you have a couple of families confused and offer the following for your use in determining if I am correct.
1st, the Lyman that you have listed as a son of Harlow and Cornelia is not their son. I am not positive of his fathers name, but his mother is definitely Susan, born in New York ca. 1810. (See 1850 census for Springfield Twsp, Oakland Co., Michigan, Page 20, Line 15; & See 1860 census for Springfield Twsp, Oakland Co., Michigan, Page 67, Line 18) also, this Lyman’s wife is not Isabel “Lula” Jencks, But Isabelle “Belle” Morris. This is proven by the marriage records of three of Lyman and Isabelle’s children in Michigan. I have also documented at least 4 of their children all born in Michigan. Abram Howe was married to Lula A. Jencks on 1 Nov 1906 in Springfield Twsp., Oakland Co., Michigan he also so confirms his parents as Lyman and Isabelle Morris Howe. David Howe married Clara A. Tilford on 4 March 1903 at Holly, Oakland Co., Michigan. He states his parents as Lyman and Belle Morris Howe. The other four children give the same information as to parentage. I have not found Lyman and Isabelle’s marriage date yet in Oakland county because if falls in between available online records.
Lyman Howe, the son of Harlow and Cornelia Hasket Howe was living in Union Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1850, 1860 and 1870 for sure as shown by census records, etc.. This Lyman was married about 1863 in Erie County, Pennsylvania to Mary ???, who was born ca. 1846 in Pennsylvania. They had at least three children, Berdenia, Melvin, and Robert all before 1870.
Harlow and Cornelia Howe were living in Steuben county, New York in 1830, 1840 and moved in 1845 to Union Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania and spent the rest of their lives there. I can account for all of their children and most of the grand children, many of this line until the mid-nineteen hundreds. I suspect that he is in the son of Jabez and by all accounts I have found Harlow was not born before 1807, so the 1801 birth year is unlikely for this Harlow.
If you are interested in exchanging info please contact me and maybe we can work out the connections of these families.
Tony
