tracking my fathers geneology.

I am trying to track down my grandfather to be able to better track geneology. My father john was born in 1942 in or near houston texas. Howery was his father's last name, and he died shortly (1-10?)yrs after my father was born. I'm wonderng if anybody has any history of "howery's" living in or near Houston around that time. Thank you
