Hello,
I am writing from Canada and my father's brother's name was "Howitt Clowes". I believe they were born in Derbyshire. There was an aunt and uncle "Howitt" who wrote poetry and had a statue of themselves erected in their home town. It may have been Ruddington...I am not sure. It is just such an uncommon name here in Canada...as is Clowes. I have lost almost all my "knowing" relatives and would therefore like to find any relatives I may have.
Is the name HOWITT as common as SMITH? If so we may be as common as hen's combs...if not we may be as uncommon as hen's teeth!!!!
