Dear Loueen, A.W.H had 3 brothers & 2 sisters.Anna Mary (1824-1884)married Alaric Watts,Charles Botham (1826-1828),Claude Middleton (1833-1844),Herbert Charlton 1838-1863)he died exploring New Zealand at Lake Brunner.Margaret (1839-?). His uncle was Dr. Godfrey Howitt (1800-1873)who practiced in Melbourne in 1840 and in Caulfield in 1869.
I have not done any research into the Australian side of the family as yet, so I cannot help you with your Mary Jane Howitt enquiry - sorry!
