I purchased in Santa Rosa, CA, the subject undated black and white snapshot of a group of people on a boat bearing License No. W-1433. It is identified on the back: "A Sundays trip from Green Bay through the 20 locks taken a De Pere Wis Mr & Mrs Percell owner of the Boat Mr & Mrs Chris Genal Mr & Mrs Lollier Mila Uehlow Grace Ruth & Bernice Howlett & myself." THese three sisters are listed in the 1905 Wisconsin State Census data and the 1910 U.S. Census data for Arpin, Wood Co., WI; and the 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census data for Oshkosh (resided at 228 Jefferson Avenue), Winnebago Co., WI. Grace Howlett, born about 1903 in WI, Ruth Howlett, born about 1904 in WI, and Bernice Howlett, born about 1906 in WI, are daughters of James Howlett, born Nov 1866 in WI, and Louise (maiden name unknown), born May 1872 in WI. At the time of the 1930 enumeration, Grace, Ruth, and Bernice were employed as a trunk factory bookkeeper, paper mill stenographer, and trucking company stenographer, respectively.
