I spent last week trying to prove that William Hoxie Densmore and our William Hoxie (father of Charles) were the same.
The more I researched, the more it lead AWAY from them being the same person.
SO what I am doing this week is starting from the beginning.
A book written about the Hoxie Family by Ron Flynn unfortunately goes down the wrong line for me.
However, it does give us a starting pointLodowick Hoxie.
So what I did was take Lodowick Hoxie(the very first Hoxie, however the name was spelled) and worked it downwith RootWeb to some solid leads...
1.Of all the sons that Lodowick had....only TWO went to Maine.
So I took those TWO sons...Gideon (born 1673)and Solomon (born 1679) and traced their two lines ...
The bad news is that these families had NO imagination. They used the same names over and over again and intermingled the names among all the cousins.
SO ....I built a tree using their year of birth (whenever possible)to help keep fathers and sonsand cousins straight.
As I went...if a particular branch was not a possibility (because the tree went past the year 1816 ORthe man had all daughters)..... I eliminated them from the equation.
We are looking for Hoxie MALES only.
2.Gideon (1673) HAD 4 sons.
Joseph, Gideon,Simeon,Lodowick
Josephhad 5 sons.
Clark (1724)
Cornelius (1726)
John (1729)
Barnabas(1732)
Lodowick (1743)
Clark only had two sons that MIGHT be a possibility.
They were Josephand John .
Joseph (1762) no other information was listed, so he is still a possibility.
John had 3 sons that were a possibility...
John (1759), Daniel (1781) and Milton (1792).
So this is an example of one line where we have 4 possible chances that William Hoxie was their descendant.
I did the same thing with all 4 of Gideon's son and all 7 of Solomon's sons. One of Solomon's sons was a Captain and never married...so I will only research him IF none of the others pan out.
3.I have all the possible leads drawn out for the descendants of Gideon and Solomon and there are 24 possibilities from Gideon and 12 possibilities from Solomon.
Of these 36 possibilities....several are what I would call very strong leads....
The LINE OFLodowick, Gideon, Joseph, Cornelius (1726), Cornelius (1793) produced a William in 1815(which is extremely close to the age of our William that moved to Vicksburg).
This will be the first lead I try to track down....
ALSO the LINE OFLodowick, Gideon, Simeon, Abner, Charles Allen (1785) is also a good lead, because Charles Allen (1785) is of the correct age to have had a son in 1815 or 1816.
There is ALSO the LINE OFLodowick, Gideon, Simeon, Lodowick (1746) to William (1785).This William (1785) could have been the father of our William.
The last interesting lead was the LINE OFLodowick, Gideon, Simeon, Charles (1748).This Charles (1748) was to old to be our William (1815/16) father...BUT it may have been his Grandfather.
So of the 24 Gideon leads....these are the strongest 4.
The 12 Solomon leads at this time are not as strong...because I did not see the name Charles and William among their immediate descendants. But they are still a lead none the less....
Solomon descendants were more Solomons, Samuels, Hezekiahs and Isaacs.
Anyway....I have the road map in print...now I just have to drive each one and pray they are not a dead end....
