Harlan Page Hubbard is a descendant of Middletown George. See his line here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ta zhub1&id=I8655 While searching for additional info on him I discovered his name is now used as an award for deceptive advertising. If you search the Internet for "Harlan Page Hubbard" award. You will get several pages of news about companies who have received this award. Following is what I have compiled to add to the Middletown George database. Harlan Page Hubbard is the publisher of "1000 Years of Hubbard History, 866 to 1895," compiled by Edward Warren Day. The following biographical information for Harlan Page Hubbard appears on page 365 in that book. "His life work has been in the main connected with newspaper and publishing business, having passed through all grades from carrier boy to editorial and business management. He also took a course in Yale Law School, [18]75. For many years (commencing 1874) he conducted a newspaper advertising agency at New Haven, CT, paying out to the press of this country and others millions of dollars for the advertising of his customers, many of whom were and still are noted successes. An interesting article on a famous book which he published a dozen years ago will be found under Miscellaneous. At the World's Columbian Exposition at Chicago, Mr. Hubbard made an exhibit of the titles and heads of over ten thousand newspapers from all countries. It was located in the Editorial Reception Rooms in the Administration Building, and attracted a great deal of attention. A medal and diploma were awarded. Mr. Hubbard is now [abt 1895] in special newspaper work in New York City, successfully conducting several journals of large circulation." In 1882 he published the two volume reference, "Hubbard's Newspaper and Bank Directory of the World, with Gazetteer and Atlas Combined." In 1883-84, a third volume was published. At the time, this work was considered very useful and "a world famous book." The book is described on page 405 of "1000 Years of Hubbard History, 866 to 1896." In the late 19th century Hubbard sold Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound for kidney and sexual problems. The renowned huckster is remembered each year by national consumer and health organizations who confer a "Harlan Page Hubbard"-- a statuette clutching a fresh lemon-- for the "most misleading, unfair and irresponsible advertising of the past 12 months.
