I recently acquired a facinating still life painting in the tradition of Harnett, Peto and Hirst with typical elements: a pipe, lone candlestick, books and pipe lights. It is signed very clearly "Charles Dana Hubbard 1902" lower right. The technique, while very good, lacks professional sophistication. There is nothing in the painting to suggest a geographical clue to its origin, but New England/ New York would be the strongest possibilities. Any Charles Dana Hubbards with known artistic accomplishments out there? Standard art reference sources shed no light.
