Hi Mary -
I am a descendant of Emily Syrepta Huckleberry, sister of your ancestor Edmund Vanburen Huckelbury; except I have the line as Benjamin>George>John>Edmund>Edmund Vanburen.I had also heard about the Holland connection. An elderly relative had written me years ago, and said "Van Huckleberry came from Holland."Unfortunately, she didn't elaborate on this, and I couldn't pin her down on any facts. When I saw the son Vanburen, I wondered about this. Also, because I have found no basis for some of the various family stories handed down over the years, I decided to check on President Martin Van Buren's term of office, just to make sure that he wasn't named for the incumbent. His term was 1837-41; and I have Edmund Vanburen Huckelbury b. 1832.Pretty close.I also wonder, since we may be from the same line, if the relative who wrote me was referring to the same family history you mentioned, now hiding in someone's barn.I really don't understand why people feel they have to keep a family history to themselves, when the purpose of it is to hand down to future generations. This is sad.I have your Edmund married to Isabel L. Coy in Washington County IL.I have never been able to access records in Washington County (they won't share, either).Do you have their marriage date?I have Edmund Sr's will from Marion County IL. He d. 23 Jul 1867 in Centralia. It is very lengthy, but worth getting a copy of - he was a Methodist Circuit Rider. There is a list of all his possessions, and all his children are named.
How complete is your family of Edmund Sr.?I still have some gaps, and don't know much about the children. My Emily was b. 2 Sep 1830 in Clark County IN; d. 15 May 1915 in Centralia, IL; m. 5 Sep 1850 in Marion Co. IL James Copple.Let me know what you need -maybe we can fill it all in.
