Grace Fielder Huffstetler, 1902
Maryville Times (Blount Co. TN) Saturday, March 15, 1902:
"The grim angel of death has again entered our city, and has taken from our midst, one of Maryville’s loved ones. On Sunday night, the spirit of Mrs. Grace Fielder Huffstetler, took its flight into the spirit world. Her death was a shock to most of our people as many did not know she was dangerously sick. We understand that neuralgia of the head caused her death. She was very sick Saturday and grew worse until her death. Miss Fielder came here about three years ago, from her home near St. Louis, Missouri, and resided with her sister, Mrs. Herman Rueter, until a little over a year ago, when she was married to W.J. Huffstetler, one of our leading young men. By her gentle, loving disposition she made many friends who mourn her death. It can be truly said of her, “none knew her but to love her.” Her parents are living, but did not get to attend the funeral, as they live so far away. Grace was about 21 years old, just the age when life means so much, and when the future with all its possibilities give promise of the realization of cherished hopes and ambitions. One of the saddest things connected with her death is that a darling, little babe only a few weeks old is left without the love and care of a mother. The funeral service was held Tuesday in the M.E. Church and was conducted by Dr. J.J. Robinette, assisted by Rev. J.E. Hughes. The remains were placed upon the hill where so many loved ones lie peacefully sleeping. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers, the gift of friends. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends."
