William HUGH mar. Rebecca / Rebekah ? abt 1750

I'm seeking parents of Joanna (or Johanna or Joannah or Joana) HUGHES, born abt. 1762 (as calculated from her death). Welsh names were loosely spelled in this era, so her surname may have been HUGHS or HUGH or HUGES or HEWES.

Glamorgan Family History Society has located a "Joan HUGH", christened 18 April 1762 in Loughor, Glamorgan, Wales, parents William & Rebekah HUGH.

Other children chr. to William & Rebecca/Rebekah HUGH are Mary 1752, Rebecca 1756, William 1759, and Thomas 1774, all in Loughor.

This "Joan HUGH" may indeed be my "Joanna HUGHES". She married John BEVAN in Bristol in 1785, and their children's names included Mary, Rebecca (also spelled Rebekah), William and Thomas.

No marriage has yet been found in Glamorgan for William & Rebekah. They may have married across the river in Carmarthenshire, Wales, and may have had more children christened there.

Does anyone descend from this HUGH (or variant) family of Loughor, Wales?

Thank you
--Jane Elderfield
