Chatham and Caroline Hughlett (Hewlett)
Looking for information concerning Chatham Hughlett and Caroline Pollard, who were married in 1826 in Baltimore, MD.Both were probably born in Virginia. They were listed in the 1830 Census in the Fifth Ward of the City of Baltimore, as being between 20 and 30 years old and having a daughter under five years old.
They had at least two more children; in additioned to the unknown oldest girl, there was Annie, born in 1834 or 1835, and James W., born August 18, 1844.I suspect that Robert E. Hughlett, born about 1840, was their child also.James' guardian Rachel Wilson, widow of Lt. Col. John Wilson, states in an affadavit in 1879 that James was orphaned as a small boy.
Annie was married in 1853 to Isaac Fowler, and was probably raised in the household of Robert Sherwood, who was a shopkeeper on E. Baltimore street in 1850, and was married to Margaret Carns. A Robert E. Hughlett served in Company F of the 4th MD in the Civil War (James was in Co. G). James named one of his sons Robert E.
Any information on this family would be appreciated.
