A COSTELLO ancestor from Ireland (b. 1846 possibly Galway) used the surname "DeCOSTELLO" but his siblings used COSTELLO.
Have you heard of this happening before?
I haven't been able to locate his parents so I don't know what his father used.

Some family stories are that this family had Huguenot family history: some said it was French Huguenots and others Spanish. Any insights or comments?

IF this family name has Huguenot history, which family would it be associated with?

I've checked various Huguenot name lists & databases but the Costello surname doesn 't come up.

Your suggestions or insights would be appreciated.
