Seeking info on Rev. Stephen Bacheller - with various spell. but he signed his name as Bacheller, who came to MA/NH in the 1600's at age 75 yrs. Because of his Antinomian belief was led by "The Spirit" with 7 followers to cross Cape Cod barefoot in the snow-- they were only saved by the Indians.

He had numerous prodigy, but was forced back to London where he died at Stepney nearing 100 yrs. It was said that when he & a son were walking together there that you could not tell the son from the father!!

In "Water's English Gleanigs" he has several wills with Stephen Bachiller/Bacheller listed as a kinsman -- most of these seem to be French names & seem to be in trading business as they were generous in their wills.

I desc. from Rev. Bacheller thru his daughter Theodate who mar. Capt. Christopher Hussey purchaser of Nantucket Island. It is thought that Theodate's mother was perhaps a daughter of a Rev. Bates.

Any info appreciated! Patillo@centurytel.net
