I am trying to locate Hulen ancestors that came from Wilkes Co, NC. I do not know if they emmigrated directly to NC, or if they first went to another state. I have been told by my grandmother that the family originated in France, and they were Huguenots. There were seven(?) brothers that emmigrated to the US together, some stayed in the east, and some went to California. I do not know if the family first escaped to England and then came to the US, or if they came straight from France. My ancestors are Earl R. Hulen, born in 1885 in Schuyler Co, MO; his father: James Franklin Hulen, born 1862 in Schuyler Co, MO; his father: John Hulen born 1830?; his father: William Hulen who msrried Polly Swain in Estill Co, KY; his father: John Hulen who married Peggy Taylor, he died in KY in 1804; his father: William Hulen who died in NC in 1785. I have located a William George Hulen who was born in Bristol Parish, VA in 1732 and died in Wilkes Co, NC in 1785 who may be the correct William. I have tried finding emmigration information on the family, but am having a great deal of difficulty. I would really like to be able to trace the ancestors back into France (the name may have been different in France and changed when they left France). If there is any information that you can send my way, I would very much appreciate it.
