I don't actually know this James, but he may be in my old notes somewhere. Most of us are descended from one or two members of the same family in Rowan Co. NC, moved to Davidson Co. TN about 1845 and from there to other places.

There were NC relatives who spelled it Hulen, Hulin, Hulon, Huland, etc. My great-grandfather is Jonathan "Huling" in the 1850 census, doubt if he knew that. He m. Eliza Trexler in NC, more Hulans
descend from them than don't.
