Looking for information regarding Charles Hull of Tiverton, RI, whose will was probated there in 1797. The Rhode Island Hist. Soc. could not locate the will but gave me a synopsis. He left his property to his wife, Phebe, named "Phebe Hull Russell son (sic) of Phebe Russell whom I brought into the family." Zilpha Hammond his half-sister and Sarah Sole, widow of Isaac Sole "whom I call sister". On 29 July 1800 Phebe Hull and Sarah Sowle, widow, sold their rights in the estate of Charles Hull. In that year the Probate Court of Tiverton placed widow, Phebe Hull, under the guardianship of her nephew, Abner Cundall, and in 1803 turned the estate over to Abner. Abner Cundall was the son of Phebe Devol's deceased sister, Elizabeth, who married a Cundall.
Charles Hull's wife is most likely Phebe Devol, daughter of Joseph Devol, whose will dated 1782 names her as his daughter, i.e., Phebe Devol. In 1790, Hannah Russell named in her will her sister...Phebe Hull. So it seems that Phebe Devol was married to Charles Hull. Can't find a marriage date for Charles and Phebe.
And, the Phebe Russell part of Charles Hull's will--Phebe Devol married Joseph Russell in Dartmouth, MA in 1790; in 1791 they became the parents of HULL RUSSELL, my ancestral line. Apparently Charles Hull raised Hull Russell for about 8 years, until Charles died. What happened to Hull Russell? Phebe Hull died in 1803 and I believe is buried in Providence, RI.
So what I would like is: marriage record for Charles Hull and Phebe Devol; relationship explanation for Phebe Russell, mother of Hull Russell, whose daughter was she? Was she a Devol or a Hull? Her marriage record does not show that she was a widow when she married Joseph Russell. I would also like a birth/death date for both Phebe Devol Russell and Joseph Russell---specifics would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
I have the last will of Tiddiman Hull of Jamestown, whose wife was Sarah, if anyone needs info--will dated 1748 and Charles Hull is not named in his will. email@example.com
