I have an ancestor, Ann Elizabeth Carter who married George Fearnley in Doncaster in 1849, and in 1853 married John Meeson in Hull. On the first marriage certificate her father is given correctly as Joseph carter, but on the second marriage it says Thomas Martin, inn keeper. I am confused by this. ALso this second marriage has a Emma Martin as a witness, and the first marriage is witness by Martha Martin, Thomas Martin and another Martin that looks like it could be Charlotte Martin. The plot deepened when I found Ann Elizabeth (aged 13) in the 1841 Census, living with a Charlotte Martin (aged 12) at Bulls Head Yard, Gt.Church Street, Gainsborough. I am confused by all this Martin business and cannot work out what relationship is between the Martins and the Carters. Thomas Martin is shown as an 'inn keeper' on the first marriage and it just so happens that the groom was also an inn keeper (some link there perhaps). The second husband (John Meeson) was also a beer seller. If anyone can possibly shed some light on any of these I would be most grateful indeed
