Proof... that's the tough part.Much of what I've learned has come from the same sources others have used when researching the Humes.I did, however, do some research in Scotland...butI'm visiting my daughter in Missouri and my records are at home in Iowa. If I were you, I'd contact Jim Hume of St. Louis.His work is thorough and he's listed all his sources.
As far as assumptions go, there are far too many Johns (as well as Alexanders, Georges, Williams, etc) in the Hume lines to assume ANYthing.I'd say, though, it's safe to assume that even though William did have a son named John, John did NOT father Sarah at the age of 10.Nope, I think "your" John was more likely the son of George.
