I have some updated information about Mary Ann Hunter Reid, following a visit to Licking MO to view her grave in the Licking town cemetery:
1.Mary Ann is buried in a family plot, side by side with her daughter, Lucinda Melvina Reid Richardson, and grand-daughter,GeorgeAnna Richardson. The inscription on her granite tombstone reads:
Mary A.
wife of
John
Reid
born Feb
28 1814
died Nov
19 1909
age 95
8 mos
22 dys
Note that this date of death is different than the one I had posted earlier.I don't have a copy of her death certificate and probably won't be able to secure this document, as the Texas County MO courthouse burned in December 1930 and destroyed many original records.I have a digital photo of her tombstone and Lucinda's as well.
2.Several of her and John Wesley Reid's children and grandchildren resided in the Licking area and are buried in the Licking cemetery.
3.There is additional information about John Wesley and Mary Ann Hunter Reid's descendant family in a book I located in the Texas County Genealogy and Historical Society Library in Houston MO,entitled "Texas County Missouri Heritage Vol. II" and published in 1989. Pages 703-704 contain an extensive entry titled "John W. Reid Family" written by Helen Reid Muka which also includes family pictures (but none with Mary Ann).I have a photocopy of this article.
4.Mary Ann is listed in the document entitled "1880 Census Texas County Missouri" compiled by Mildred F. Melton and Vearl Rowe and published by Mildred Fourt Melton, copyright 1990.Her entry on page 107 reads:
"26. (household number)RIED, Maryhead (family status) 66 (age) and SC (state of birth). Also shown as residing in the household is Melvina Richardson (daughter, age 44, born in TN) and Anna Richardson (granddaughter, age 11, born in MO).I have a photocopy of this listing.
5.Mary Ann is listed in the document entitled "1900 Federal Census of Texas County Missouri Volume IV" compiled and published by Mildred F. Melton and Neva N. Bryant, 1995.Her entry on page 79 reads:
"5. (household number)REID, Mary A.hd (family status)
Feb 1814 (date born) 86 (age)wd (married/single) 14 (children born) 5 (children living)SC (state of birth) SC (state of father's birth) SC (state of mother's birth). Also shown as residing in the household is Lucinda M. Richardson (daughter, age 64), John W Hunter (grandson, age 38, born in MO, both parents born in TN) and Georgia Richardson (granddaughter, age 31).I have a photocopy of this listing.
6.I also visited St James MO (about 30 miles north of Licking) and located the graves and tombstones of Mary Ann's husband, John Wesley Reid (listed as Ried) and son,W. C.,in Pine Hill cemetery located in the countryside about 5 miles from St James. I have a digital photo of John Wesley's tombstone.
