Thanks for the email. Here is the information that I have:
Hunter, James Wesley
Born in Burke County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in McDowell County at the age of 34 on July 14, 1862. Mustered in as a corporal in as aCompany F, 58th North Carolina Troops, on July 29, 1862.Transferred to Company C, 5th Battalion North Carolina Cavalry about that same date. Horse valued at $172.00. Reported sick in February 1863. Reported present April through June 1863. Transferred to Company H, 6th North Carolina Cavalry. Reported present in August 1863. Died on an unknown date and place of unknown causes. “Family tradition holds that he was taken a prisoner of war at some point and died in a Union prison. However, Federal provost marshal records do not confirm, this.”
Any idea of where he is buried?
Thanks again for the note.
Regards,
Michael
