William Hunter, born c.1810 in Gorbals, Glasgow, SCT., m. Mary MIEKLE, 8 July, 1833, also in Gorbals. They had four children:
Mary Hoatson Hunter, b. 13 Apr. 1834, in Barony, Lanark, SCT;
David Hunter, b. 6 Dec., 1835, in Barony;
Mary Ann Hunter, b. 1844 in SCT;
Jessie Hoatson Hunter, b. 1849 in SCT.
They emigrated from SCT to Canada in 1857 and survived the destruction of the SS Montreal when it burned off Quebec City on 26 June, 1857, with tremendous loss of life. Among the deaths was Mary's father John Meikle (b. 1770), and her brother Thomas Meikle (b. 1811).
The last documented evidence of this Hunter family is in the 1871 census, where they are in Toronto with son David listed as a tinsmith. There is also a David Hunter, born c. 1837, in the 1891 Toronto census on Familysearch, but I don't have access to the film image to tell if it might be the correct David Hunter.

Does anyone have any info on what happened to this family?

Thanks, Charlie Dobie.
