Is anyone missing Mary Hunter?

In working on the Floyd family tree, the records indicate that Daniel Floyd married Mary Hunter and the story has been told that this couple left for California during the gold rush. It is believed that they were either from or married in New York or Illinois and the marriage would have been around 1850 or so. They apparently had a few children - William Harrison Floyd and at least 2 daughters whose names remain unknown. William left home by the age of 14 and it is unclear if he ever returned. I am trying to locate any records for Mary Hunter and Daniel (A.?) Floyd and their family.
