My great grandmother was adopted by Jesse and M. Alida Chase Hurlburt. Jesse's parents were Ansley Hurlburt and Jane Marcy Hurlburt. Here are a few obits found in my ggrandparents house. Castile, Perry, Silver Springs, and Warsaw are all in NY. ANSLEY HURLBURT (notice spelling of his name, age at death are diffent in each of the three following obits) 1)Ansley Edison Hurlburt died at his home near Chace Station June 26th, aged 85 years. Mr. Hurlburt was born in LeRoy November 16, 1817, and had been a resident of this place for the past eighteen years. He had been in feeble health for some time. Heart failure was the cause of his death. He leaves besides his wife, six children, fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was the youngest of a family of nine children; only one of whom, a sister, Mrs. Mary Childs, who lives in Wyoming, N. Y., two years older than he survives him. He married Betsey L. Otis, Jan. 9th, 1845, who died June 10th, 1849. One son Charles was given them. He was married the second time to Elizabeth Farley, July 3d, 1851, who died June 11, 1868. Five children, Elmer, Udelmer, since deceased, William, Celinda, and Edgar were given to them. He was married again to Jane Marcy, Sept. 15, 1868. One son, Jesse, was the result of this marriage. Mr. Hurlburt was a blacksmith by trade and had a shop at Covington Center and at West Perry. He was obliged to give up his trade some years ago on account of failing eye sight. He has lived in the vicinity of Chace's Station for eighteen years, and was beloved and respected by all who knew him on account of his sterling qualities of character. He was a devoted husband and father, extremely unselfish, honest, industrious, always at work even until the last few months of his life. He expressed his readiness and willingness to depart during the last few years of his life. His funeral was held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The services were conducted by Rev. I. B. Hudnutt. He was buried at West Perry. The text for the sermon selected by the deceased was Job 14:14, "If a man die, shall he live again?" 2)Addison Ansley Hurlburt was born in LeRoy, N. Y., Nov. 16, 1818 and died at Chace's station, June 26, 1903, and was therefore in the 89th year of his age. Hudnutt of Castile, Methodist Episcopal church and the burial took place at West Perry on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. 3)Hurlburt [penciled in 1903] Ansley Addison Hurlburt died at his home near Silver Springs, Thursday, June 25th, aged 84 years and seven months. He was born in LeRoy, N. Y., Nov. 16, 1818, the youngest of a family of nine children, only one surviving, Mrs. Mary E. Childs, now living at Wyoming, who is three years his senior. The greater part of his life was spent in Wyoming county, residing in the towns of Covington, Perry, Warsaw, and Gainesville. He was united in marriage on Jan. 9th, 1845 to Betsey L. Otis, of Perry, N. Y., whose decease occurred in June 1849. To this union was born one son, Charles O. Hurlburt, now residing in Perry. On July 3rd, 1851, he was married to Elizabeth A. Farley, of Stafford, N. Y., to whom was born four sons, and a daughter, E. B. Hurlburt of Romeo, Mich., Wm A. Hurlburt of Silver Springs, Edgar M. Hurlburt and Mrs. W. J. Scott of Warsaw, N. F. Hurlburt having died in July 1902. Again death claimed the wife and mother, on June 11th, 1868. On September 15th, 1868, he was married to Jennie G. Marcy of Perry, who, with one son, Jesse A. Hurlburt of Silver Springs, survive, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. Funeral services were held at his late home, Sunday June 28, Rev. Hudnett of Castile officiating, whith interment at Perry. JANE MARCY HURLBURT Jane Marcy Hurlburt died Sept. 24, 1913, at the home of her brother, Wilbur Marcy. She was ill only a few hours, of angina pectoris. She was a daughter of John and Prudence Marcy and was born on June 17th, 1842, in the town of Leicester. On Sept. 15th, 1868, she was married to Ansley Hurlburt, who preceded her to the better land ten years ago last June. Her nearest surviving relatives are her one son, Jesse A. Hurlburt of Perry; and a son and a daughter of her husband's former marriage, to whom she filled a mother's place, Edgar Hurlburt and Mrs. Celinda Scott, both of Warsaw. Two brothers and one sister also survive: Charles Marcy of Naples, N. Y.; Wilbur J. Marcy, and Mrs. Charles Hurlburt of Perry. A woman of sterling worth, of kindly deeds, an ever ready helping hand, her work is done. She has reached "that land where tired feet, with sandals loosed, may rest." Services were held last Friday at 2 p.m., at her brother's home, conducted by Rev. William Robinson. Interment was in the family lot at West Perry. Jesse Hurlburt and family, Wilbur Marcy and family desire to thank the friends and neighbors for the kindness and sympathy shown during their recent bereavement, especially to those who sent the many beautiful flowers. MRS. LINDA H. SCOTT Mrs. Linda H. Schott, 71, of Warsaw, died Tuesday. Funeral will be conducted at the home Friday at 2 p.m. Surviving are Walter Scott of Warsaw, son; Edgar Hurlburt of Warsaw and Jessie Hurlburt of Castile, brothers. FLOYD HURLBURT Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hurlburt were called to Port Huron last Thursday to the bedside of their son, Floyd, who was hopelessly ill of typhoid fever. He lingered until Saturday, when he expired in the hospital in that city. Deceased was born in this village twenty-four years ago, where he attended the public schools. He was a young man of exemplary habits and had a bright future before him. He became a resident of Port Huron about eight years ago, and at the time of his death held a responsible position with the Penisular Bridge Works of that city. During his residence in the Tunnel City Mr. Hurlburt made many warm friends. He was united in marriage with a Port Huron lady who, with three small children, are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father. The funeral was held yesterday at 9 a.m with interment in the cemetery at Port Huron. Notify Administrator about this message?
