New to Genealogy - I'm a Hurlbut

Hi there, I'm a Hurlbut and am trying to piece together my family history. I'm afriad I'm not having much luck and I'm hoping someone here can give me some help. I've only been able to trace back to my Great-Grandfather, Robert Clyde Hurlbut born 14 Jan 1890.

Finding all the Genealogy references to Hurlbut on Google, etc. is a bit overwhelming. I'd like to at least trace back to where my ancestors came from on the other side of the Atlantic.
