Some Canadian HUSZAR Info

Hey - first footprint in the new snow of the HUSZAR Forum !

Look up listings using Canada’s phone book - - use “Search All” or name of Province.
For ALBERTA, do separate inquiry - - For SASKATCHEWAN, you must use - -

Canada has 46 Huszar surnames, with 13 in Ontario, 7 in British Columbia on the west coast, 5 in Manitoba, 4 in Québec, 2 in Nova Scotia, and 1 in Yellowknife, North-West Territories. There are another 9 in Alberta and 4 more in Saskatchewan.

This means 40% of the Canadian families settled in the 3 Prairie (plains) Provinces, or we could say 56% settled west of Ontario and "north of 60º" as we say here. This is not surprising, since many Eastern European families went to locations where they could farm, harvest timber, or mine.

I believe this is a name with Czech, Slovak, or Hungarian roots ?

Let's hear more from people from all over the world who want to tell us about the HUSZAR surname !
