According to the info that I have, Elijah Hutchcraft was born between 1806 & 1809 in Kentucky. He died in 1879. Harrison Hutchcraft was born about 1816. He was apparently born in Illinois and was a farmer in Wayne County, Illinois. As to why the two Rhodeses married Hutchcrafts or visa versa, someone once told me that "in the old days" people didn't marry anyone more than a day's buggy ride from their house. My guess is that the Rhodes and Hutchcraft farms were close to each other, a couple of the children were close in age & fell in love.

Curiosly, after the Civil War,the Rhodeses left the area eventually winding up in Missouri. When my great grandfather returned to Illinois, he did not settle in either White or Wayne county but in western Illinois. I can't figure out why but he is dead & so I will never know.

Peace & Blessings,

Tim Rhodes
