Ian
My ancestors also came from Shepton Beauchamp, as well as Seavington St. Michael, Seavington St. Mary, and South Petherton - all within a few miles of each other.I can easily trace back to Elijah Hutchings, married to Harriet Gifford (from South Petherton), who emigrated to Leeds County (Newboro and North Crosby), Ontario Canada. Then part of the family branch says that Elijah's father was a Robert Hutchings, wife unknown - but no-one seems to know anything about him and I have not been able to find a Robert Hutchings from the correct era, in the Somerset area who could have been his father.Another branch says that Elijahs' father was Joseph Hutchings. If that is true, I have traced him back to a William Hutchings Born 1738.
Does any of this sound familiar to you?
Edna
