Circa 1870s photos of Wesley, Hattie, and Emily Olive Hutchinson
I recently purchased a family album containing 17 studio portraits, including the subject ones. Two photos taken by A. H. Hall, Chatsworth, IL, are identified on their backs in period handwriting:
"Wesley Hutchinson"
"Hattie Hutchinson"
These two photos also bear the name "Mary" penciled on the backs, probably the name of a former owner, likely Wesley's mother or sister.
A third photo taken by R. A. Hickox, Hiawatha, KS, is identified in the same period handwriting:
"Emily Hutchinson Vail"
Wesley and Emily Olive Hutchinson were brother and sister, children of a farmer, Israel Hutchinson (1818-1914), and Mary Malinda Burgess (1820-1873).I found the parents listed in the 1850 and 1860 Census data for Vermillion, LaSalle Co., IL.The two children are also listed in OneWorldTree posted on ancestry.com.
Wesley Hutchinson was born 8 Feb 1846 in IL.On 19 Nov 1878, he married Hattie Adelaide Lee, born 28 Mar 1858 in IL, died 9 Feb 1908 in IL.This no doubt is the Hattie in the subject photo (the photos of Wesley and Hattie were taken by the same studio and are inserted in the same album page).
Emily Olive Hutchinson was born 26 Mar 1852 in IL.I found her listed in the 1870 Census data for Bruce Township, LaSalle Co., IL.She was employed as a school teacher and resided with the Joseph and Helen Burgess family.I also found her listed in the 1880 Census data for Hiawatha, Brown Co., KS, residing on Delavan Street with her wagon maker husband, Benjamin H. Vail, born about 1846 in NJ, and son Glenn W., born about 1877 in KS.
Other surnames appearing in this album are Burgess, Egerton, Hall, McNabb, Porter, and Stanford.
