Hi Janic,
The Slushers came from a village called Londorf just north of Frankfurt, Germany. A gentleman by the name of Friedrich Schlosser, born about 1605. The name Schlosser became Anglosized after coming to the colonys. It then became Slusher by some, although when in Virginia in 2002 I did see the Schlosser name on some businesses.
I have Susannah Slusher shown as wife of Elijah Hylton, but no dates and do not have her parents. There are many Schlosser's and Slusher's in the Hylton family and they were in the Civil War together from Floyd County, VA. Ther are two more Susannah's that I have listed as well as Susan but their birth dates don't come close.
For you information; there are many Slusher's listed in my Hiatt family also, both on the North and the South during the Civil War. It seems that no matter where you look you see a Hylton, Hampton, Love or a Hiatt pop-up. Hope you get something out of this as these are real mountain people and the backbone of America.
Sincerely,
Lew Hiatt
