Rev. Samuel B. Hyman/Henry A. Hyman
I thought I would post information I gathered for a response to an e-mail about the Hyman family in VA, which spread throughout the Midwest. Samuel Benton Hyman was a son of Henry A. Hyman of VA by his first wife. Henry A. also had children by his second wife, Angeline Duncan (a widow, so Duncan is not her maiden name). I am descended from a child of that marriage, Clifton Pleasant Hyman:
Henry A. Hyman (1813-4 Aug 1882) m Rhoda E. Hall (7 Sept 1807 d. 16 July 1848)
Children:
John Henry Hyman (b. 11 Oct 1836 d. 24 Nov 1876)
Rhoda E. Hyman (b. 6 June 1842 d. 24 Oct 1871)
William Pleasant Hyman (b. 26 Jan 1847)
Samuel Benton Hyman (b. 11 July 1840 d. 16 March 1902)
Samuel B. married (1 Jan 1863) Mary E. Taylor, daughter of Robert R. and Catherine Taylor.
Children:
John Robert Hyman (b. 20 July 1864 d. 17 June 1909) m. Minnie Davis in IL
William Henry (b. 11 Jan 1870) m Lena ? 4 children born in Leavenworth KA
Luther Theophilus Hyman (b. 4 Aug 1866) m Minnie ? 6 children born in KA and IA
Birdie Hall Hyman (b. 11 Dec 1872)
If anyone wishes the names of the children not listed in this post, let me know. Rev. Samuel Benton Hyman was a Methodist minister, who evidently rode the circuit throughout the Midwest. He and his family lived in Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky. He died in Arkansas. He left Amherst County VA after his marriage, stopping in Washington DC and then New York. I strongly feel he left because of opposition to the Southern position in the Civil War - which his father, Henry A. Hyman, fought in on the Confederate side.
