Hi Michael,
Betsy or Elizabeth Hyslop was the first wife of my 3rd great-grandfather, George Kinghorn. They were married in Lasswade, Midlothian, Scotland. In my original message, I stated her parents as David Hislop and Janet Moffat...ERROR.Her mother was Janet Allen -- both parents were born abt. 1768 in Scotland. They married abt. 1791, and there were two children that I know of so far:Betsy (or Elizabeth or Elspet), born 21 January 1793 in Lasswade. and a sister, Agnes, born 16 August 1795 in Lasswade. My source:FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File......Compact Disc #3(AFN: BR5K-85)
My cousin, Dawn Sherman, tells me that she found material stating that Betsy died abt. 1823 by drowning in a coal pit.I cannot as yet document that as a fact, but have made a note tocheck on it.
Actually, I haven't done much on the Hyslop side of my family history. My family names are:Adamson, Kinghorn, Cunningham, Phillips, Quinn, Worden, Fite, Anderson, Featherstone and Samualson and on and on.If you can shed light on my Betsy, I will appreciate it greatly. However, I cannot see where our two families would meet, other than the similarities in place name and surname.I am descended from the second of George Kinghorn's marriage to Elizabeth Watson.Oh, by the by, there're Hyslops in Utah and Idaho.
I will keep your email address in case I find research that benefits both of us.
Yes, indeed, genealogy is fun and enlightening.I have made so many friends and have found family all over the United States and Canada, as well as England, Scotland, Wales, Germany and Sweden.
Best wishes in your research, and congratulations on the birth of your son.
