The Traer Iowa Historical Museum has put out a new book containing a diary and many letters from men of Company G 14th Iowa Infantry.

Battles involved are Donelson, Shiloh, Pleasant Hill and others, as well as POW Camp Oglethorpe in Macon Georgia and POW Camp Ford in Tyler Texas. There are newly discovered photos of the soldiers and a couple maps. Included is information on the lives of many of the men after the War.

Several men from the Irving-Redman area of Benton County served in this regiment and are featured in this book. Other soldiers from the Vinton area serving in the 13th Iowa regiment are discussed in the letters and diary. Also quoted, are letters and poems sent by soldiers during the War to the Vinton Eagle.
