many, many thanks - I have looked through the 1930 census so many times !! I must have just been swamped by all the variations. This confirms everything I have found so far.

If I could only find the deaths of Hugh and Esther!

I have the passage of Hugh twice into the US in 1923 and 1910. He was married before he sailed in 1923 but is noted (as you say) as single. Esther followed later as a married woman.
