1900 census town of Armstrong, Armstrong Grove township, Emmet County, Iowa
Ridley, R H, head, b. Jun 1855, m 18 yrs, TN TN TN, Carpenter {Reuben H}
Eliza J, wife, b. Oct 1866, m 18 yrs, 2 children, NE Eng Eng
Ida, dau, b. Jun 1888, IA TN NE
Willie, son, b. Nov 1892, IA TN NE

It sure looks like your Ridley line is not descended from the Maine bunch for whom Esterville was named. Reuben is not listed among the children of that couple who were married in 1855.

Records kept in the family would have gotten in the way of claiming that enormous pride you mentioned. :)

Unable to turn up Rueben before 1900. Only thing close was a Henry Ridley from TN born about the right time.
