Mt. Ayr, Dec. 30. -- ELLIS OVERHOLSER, aged 17 years, was shot in the back and died within an hour, at Knowlton, in the northwestern part of this county, just before noon yesterday. The fatal injury was from the shotgun of WILL CHRISTY, aged 16 years, and was the result of an accidental discharge. Four boys, CHARLES MCGINTY, ROY PARKINS, WILL CHRISTY and ELLIS OVERHOLSER, were out hunting about a quarter of a mile from town. Two of the boys had shot at a squirrel, and young CHRISTY was raising his gun to shoot, when in cocking it the hammer slipped and the contents of the gun were discharged into OVERHOLSER's back, at a distance of eight or ten feet. The other boys were right in line at a short distance, but the charge of shot did not go clear through OVERHOLSER's body. His backbone was shot in two. He was taken to the home of FRANK MARSH and a doctor was summoned, but the injured boy speedily lost consciousness and died within an hour. The dead boy's father is JACOB H. OVERHOLSER, a farmer who makes his home in Knowlton.
