James Boyd Iams

Hello, my name is Angela Keenum-Lawson. My mothers name is JoAnn Iams-Keenum. Her father was James Boyd Iams. Mom once told me she heard a story that a "j" got cut off on the bottom of her name somehow on some paperwork or something and this changed her family name from Ijams to Iiams, and eventually, one of the "i's" was dropped and now it is spelled Iams. From what I've seen so far on this sight it looks to be true. Can someone tell me if this is an Irish name, or English? (Or what?) Mom believes it is Irish, I think.

Also, there is a very important story she told me and I need to know if anyone else out there anywhere has ever heard this story before? Either her grandfather or great-grandfather, I believe was named Will Iams, (I think.) His family lived in Oklahoma. When he was 7 years old he was kidnapped and taken to California and made to work in the fields there. He remembered his name, and when he turned 14 years old he ran away and went back to Oklahoma to look for his family. He never found any of them. He stayed in southwest Oklahoma the rest of his life hoping one of them would come back someday looking for him.

Does any of this sound familiar. Has anyone ever heard of a 7 year old boy they believed to have died or anything like that?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Angela Dawn Keenum-Lawson
