Wm Iams' father-in-law Richard Cheney brought several people (unnamed) over in 1663. For that, Cheyney was given land (Cheyney's Resolution). Possibly Wm Iams came in this group and was given some of this same land by Cheyney in 1674 by deed of gift when Wm married Cheyney's daughter. Any research should be done at the Maryland State Archives (see their web site). There may be loose papers, court records, etc., for the Cheyney or Iams family that have not been indexed, researched, microfilmed or transcribed. Many records were destroyed in fires. Maryland seem to have a propensity for burning courthouses. Another old one burned a few days ago!
