Ralph died October 19, 2001 in Des Moines. He and Norita, his wife, had gone there to a family reunion. While at the reunion, he thought the sharp pain in his back was a muscle spasm. They took him to a hospital where they did surgery for ruptured aorta this was September 20, 2001. He had complications from the surgery and died a month later.
