Would you please help me with a marriage look-up and possibly marriage laws in the 1940's? First, I'm trying to verify the 2nd marriage of my great aunt Mary Laura (CAMPBELL) HANEY to Mr. Gurn (or Gern) E. TOWN. They got married in Coeur d' Alene, on or about 8 August 1942. This was the second marriage for Mary and probably the second marriage for Gurn TOWN. (Mary's first marriage was to Robert HANEY.) Second, were the marriage laws in Idaho so different from those in Washington? Did those differences have anything to do with the waiting period, blood test or something else? Both Mary and Gurn lived in Colville, county seat of Stevens County, Washington. Since there was a courthouse in both Colville and Spokane, I'm wondering why they would have gone to Coeur d' Alene to get married. Maybe this was just something couples did, but why drive more than 2 hours, past two courthouses to do that? Thank you for your help. Jan Notify Administrator about this message?
