Joseph M. Gray, Mary A. Tresslar, Robert Sutton, Mary Agnes Douglas families-

Michael M. Tresslar b. 31 May 1813, VA. d. 18 Nov 1875, Labette Co., KS. burial- Fairview Cemetery, Kansas.

Daughter - Mary Ann /Tresslar/ b. about 12 Dec 1852, Franklin, Johnson Co., Indiana, d. 17 Aug 1878, Altamont Labette Co., KS., burial - Fairview Cemetery Kansas.

Mary A. /Tresslar/ married 20 Mar 1871, in Oswego, Labette Co., KS. to-

Joseph M. Gray. He was born 30 Jun 1833, (his gravestone says b. 1829) Clinton Co., Illinois. Civil War Soldier, Private in Co., "M", 1st Colorado Cav. Vol. that enlisted Sept. 17th, 1861; was discharged Oct. 5th, 1864 by reason of expiration of term of service, having served three years. Just before the Sand Creek Chivington Massacre in Colorado November 29-30, 1864.
He was mustered a member of Oswego Post No. 150 June 7th, 1883.
died 20 Jul 1898 Altamont, Labette Co., KS. burial- Fairview Cemetery, Kansas. Census records show his parents were born in Virginia.
"I'm still trying to find out his parents names." I don't have Joseph's death record.

Joseph remarried after Mary Tresslar died. (*see that info below)

1. George Washington Gray b. 09 Nov 1873, Altamont, Labette Co., KS. d. 01 Jun 1971, Independence, KS. burial- Wichita Park Cemetery, Sedgwick Co., Kansas.
Married 24 Dec 1895 Altamont KS. to Gertrude Mae /Gray/ Gray. 'Gertie' was b. 06 Dec 1875, Altamont, Labette Co., KS. d. 16 Jun 1948, Wichita, Sedg. Co., KS. burial- Wichita Park Cemetery, Sedgwick Co., KS. Gertie's parents were Samuel Alexander & Ellen /Hector/ Gray, Samuel A. Gray was b. 1846 in Juniata Co., Pennsylvania. Civil War Soldier, Company C, 21 PA. Cavalry, 1914 burial- Altamont Cemetery, Altamont Labette Co., KS.
Obituary- Samuel A. Gray lived in Juniata Co., PA. until enlisting in the army, serving 17 months in the Civil War in Company C, 21 PA. Cavalry, being mustered out at the close of the war. About 1867 he went to Gratiot, Wis. where he married Ellen Hector. In March 1870 they emigrated to Elm Grove township, Labette County, KS. where he lived his whole life. He was one of the early settlers of Labette Co. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church until his death. One week before his death he went to Chicago with Dr. N. C. Morrow for an operation for cancer, he was operated on a Saturday. But he died the following Tuesday. Feb 24, 1914.
His wife Ellen Hector was born 1851 in England. 1925 burial- Altamont Cemetery, Altamont, Labette Co., KS.

2. Minnie Catherine Bell /Gray/ b. 31 Dec 1875, Labette Co., KS. d. 17 Nov 1964, Coffeyville, KS. burial- Coffeyville, KS. Cemetery.
Married about 1895 to- Wilbert H. O. Bryner 'Bert' was b. Dec 1872, Mt. Pleasant Township, Labette Co., KS. He was son of Samuel G. & Margaret A. /Gray/ Bryner.

*Joseph M. Gray's 2nd wife- Joseph went back to Clinton Co., IL. & there on 14 Mar 1883, married-
Martha Mary Agnes /Douglas/ They returned to Labette Co., KS. She was the widow of Richard Sutton. 'Agnes' was b. 27 Dec 1841, in Illinois. d. 19 Apr 1907, Labette Co., KS. burial- Altamont Cemetery, Altamont Labette Co., KS.

Child of Joseph M. & Mary Agnes /Douglas/ Sutton - Gray-

Agnes E. /Gray/ b. Feb 1884, Labette Co., KS., death unknown. I have some cards From a 'Topsey Gray', To my great-grandfather George W. Gray, & I'm wondering if this may be Agnes E. Gray b. 1884. But it seems like I remember my father saying that Topsey was adopted. I'm still not sure about this.

Robert Sutton, 'Bob' b. Apr 1861 Illinois, He came to Kansas. Death unknown.

I would love to find out what my 2nd great grandfather Joseph M. Gray's 1898 death certificate says about who his parents were.
