At 7 pm, on 7 Feb. 1976, a van carrying 16 children and the grandfather of 12 of them were involved in an accident with a B & O. train. Henry Lowe, the grandfather, was killed, along with 6 of his grandchildren and 5 neighbors' children were killed instantly. The others survived. I have a newspaper article (name and place unknown) of the accident and have contacted the funeral home for a confirmation of the exact date and time of the accident. What I don't have is the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation of the accident and its finding. Is there someone near Berkemeyer or whereever the nearest newspaper would have been published that could see if a coroner's report was published or the finding of the NTSB? I could tell from the witnesses' statements that the engineer was not at fault but it was an unmarked crossing. I would like to know if there were reprocussions, perhaps lights erected, a bar, something, to prevent this from happening again. I lost a lot of little cuzzies that day.
