The following is a transcription of information obtained from a photocopy of the family record page of the bible that belonged to John & Alice Clark Tutt Ivins. The photocopy was obtained in the early 1980's by Adam Brockie (grandson of Benjamin Bosworth Ivins) from William Ivins (son of James Hamilton Ivins). According to Adam Brockie, William Ivins sister, Frances M. Nelson of Aiken, S.C., had the original bible at the time). This record page was hand written, most of it presumably by Alice Clark Tutt Ivins. The record reads as follows: "FAMILY RECORD BORN DIED John Ivins June 1, 1822 June 5, 1896 Alice Ivins July 23, 1835 May 4, 1894 Sarrah Josephine Dec 3, 1853 Geo. Albert Sept 20, 1856 July 1902 Charles Edward Jan 16, 1860 John C. DeLeon January 28, 1858 Herbert Venable July 4, 1864 Oct 14, 1897 William Everette March 3, 1866 Gerald Huntington Oct 14, 1868 Frederick Norton Oct 14, 1869 Benjamin Bosworth Aug 21, 1872 Alice May 25, 1875 Died 1875 Henry John W. May 30, 1876 Mary Elizabeth May 21, 1879 James Hamilton Oct 27, 1883 Feb 12, 1955" Some comments regarding these entries: In the original an "x" appears in front of Sarrah Josephine and Charles Edward. There is no explanation in the record of the signifigance of the "x" before these entries. Both John and Alice were married before they married each other. From research I have done, I can add the following information about this family: John Ivins married Caroline _____ (date and place unknown). Caroline died of typhoid in Bloomington, IL on 26 May 1861. Sarrah Josephine, George Albert and Charles Edward Ivins were children of this marriage. Alice Clark married John B. Tutt on 15 Feb 1855 in Frankfort, Franklin County, KY. John B. Tutt was a 1st lieutenant in Company F, 116th Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War and died at Young's Point, Louisiana on 26 January 1863. John and Alice Tutt had the following children: Edwin M., John C.B., Mary Lucy and Ella Livingston Tutt. All but John C.B. Tutt died before reaching age 4. For some unknown reason John C.B. Tutt changed his name to John C. DeLeon. On 25 December 1877, John C. DeLeon married Carrie M. Mason in LaSalle County, IL. On August 15, 1882, John C. DeLeon married Minnie Weimer in Winnebago County, IL. The last record I have of him is from the 1900 US Census when he and Minnie and their 3 children were living in Geneseo, Henry County, IL. All of the other children listed in the bible record were children of John and Alice Clark Tutt Ivins. John Ivins and Alice Clark Tutt were married on 20 December 1863 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Bloomington, IL. Notify Administrator about this message?
