As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I rescued a box of photos that for the most part, is of the DENNIS Family of Illinois.

I did research on this line, because I have DENNIS in my line, but couldn't connect this line, to mine. What I did find is this:

The 1880 Oblong, Crawford Co. IL census reads:

Samuel Dennis 40
Eliza A. Dennis 38
William F. Dennis 14
Hiram F. Dennis 12
Dora E. Dennis 10
Sarah A. Dennis 7
John W. Dennis 6
Lillie L. Dennis 3
Charles O. Dennis 1

The first photo is of a house, with a family sitting on the porch. It also has a man on the back of a horse, standing there. It's dark and hard to make out, but you can still see it. Written on this is: H.T. Dennis Family, Cherry Valley, Arkansas.

The 1900 census shows the family-Hiram, Lonella, Wilma, Anna and Earnest, living in Mitchell, Cross Co. Arkansas.

H.T. DENNIS was born in Illinois. Wife's name was Lonella/Lowella/Luella, depending on the census. The family ends up back in Oblong Crawford County, IL.

Daughter Anna DENNIS married a SMITH. (Other surnames I've capitalized). I have seven photos grouped together for her.

Two of photos for Anna are of her daughter Earlene Smith-as a baby & as a little girl-adorable!

One photo is a group photo of 10 small children. Written on the back is: Left to Right, Ann Dennis, Wilma Dennis, Ralph HENRY, Earnest Dennis, Zene PRICE, Eunice BEST, D.L. Price, Pearl Best, Fred Henry and Ross Henry. Taken in Oblong, IL.

Two photos are Anna as a young lady. One identifies her as Anna DENNIS, and one identifies her as Anna SMITH.

The last two photos of Anna, were taken when she was a child. One, she's with her brother Earnest and sister Wilma. The other one, she's with Wilma.

The Wilma DENNIS group of pictures. I have two copies of a baby picture that's identified as Wilma DENNIS WHITMER.
(She married Arthur WHITMER). Another copy of the photo, with her brother Earnest and sister Anna is in this group.

Two photos of Wilma as a young lady. One she's alone, in another she's with Anna and two unidentified women.

The next photo is of Wilma and husband Arthur. Maybe a marriage photo? The cardboard frame that it's in has seen better days, but someone wrote their names on it and I'm trying my best to keep it together.

There's a family picture of Wilma, Art and their children (Wilma) Lorene (she went by her middle name), and son Duaine.

I have a photo of Duaine and Lorene as children. Lorene is a baby in this photo. Both of their children were blessed with curly blond hair.

Then there's another photo. I think it's Wilma and a young man-I'm not sure who he is. However, the on the frame someone wrote Fred & Mildred. There was a Fred and Mildred WHITMER in Illiois. This woman could easily pass for Wilma Dennis Whitmer. The young man's ears are much more pronounced than either Art Whitmer or Duaine Whitmer's ears.

Earnest DENNIS is photograped in five photos.

One of him as an infant, I have two copies of.

Then there's one of him with Elmer Carl Dennis. (I'm not sure who he is, if as an infant he might have died, between census's? He doesn't appear with the family in a census.)

One photo, Earnest is posing in a dark outfit and hat. The hat almost reminds me of a Civil War hat, worn by the Union. He's about 5-6. Then I have a large picture of a group of men. On the back is written: Earnest Dennis March 10, 1924 (That's what the date looks like, it's on a crease, where someone bent the photo while shoving it in the box, that I bought it in.) Written on the front is:
Gov. and the T.C. Shop Men Polestine.

The last photo I have for this DENNIS family, (unless I find another one), is of a beautiful dark complected/dark hair & eyes, young lady identified as Hattie DENNIS. In the Oblong, 1900 census, she's living with her parents, Sam'l & Eliza DENNIS. That makes her a sister to Hiram.

I wish I had the amount of information on my DENNIS line, as what I've uncovered on this one. So far, I haven't been able to connect this line with mine, so I'm looking for family to send them to.

If you wish to obtain them, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.
