Joan -- this gets more and more complicated as I look into it (of course)so I'm glad this is an uncommon name. I have searched Illinois up and down with every variation I could think of and soundex, and I have found only one other family with this name in Illinois. That family was in southern Illinois far removed from the Thomas Tovrea family and doesn't seem to have any connection. I am positive that the Thomas L. Tovrea who served in the civil war is the Thomas that you have been looking at. I haven't found anyone he could be confused with. This same Thomas L. married Mary Williams 24 Apr 1854 in McLean Co, IL before marrying Margaret in 1866, so Mary was the mother of the children before Cora. She is the Mary in the 1860 census. Their name is given as "Tover" in 1860. My Hensons (family Margaret first married into) were in Randolphs Grove, McLean Co, IL in 1834 at the same time the Tovreas arrived there. The Henson's then moved south across the DeWitt Co border. Even though they lived in DeWitt Co, the Hensons did their business in and claimed as home Leroy, IL which is in McLean Co and is the hometown which Thomas L. Tovrea claimed when he enlisted in the army in 1861. He would have met Margaret Henson in Leroy sometime during the early 1860's. Her first husband died just south of Leroy in 1863. More on the Moore connection in the 1900 census: It looks to me like the step-mother of the Charles Moore who Thomas is living with in 1900 was the daughter (Sarah Rebecca Tovrea) of Thomas' brother Joshua. So Charles Moore and Sarah Rebecca Tovrea Moore weren't actually related by blood, but Sarah Rebecca married Charles' father when Charles was about 4, so he probably considered her his mother. Thomas and Sarah Rebecca may have been close as it seems most of the family moved west after 1850 and there may not have been many relatives in the area. Hope it helps...............Debbie.
